THE CHALLENGE
THE CHALLENGE
Chadwicks is Ireland’s leading building materials distributor and a part of the wider Grafton Group. With a large customer base of trade professionals, Chadwicks needed to modernise its B2B ecommerce platform to reduce offline dependency and deliver a seamless self-service experience.
Their goals were clear: increase B2B traffic, improve online account management, and reduce pressure on branch and customer support teams. Legacy systems and fragmented data added complexity, requiring deep ERP integration and synchronisation with a third-party document management system.
The transformation was led by Space 48, now part of Glass Atlas, in partnership with the Chadwicks team and demanded both technical precision and commercial clarity.
We kicked off with focused discovery sessions to align Chadwicks’ commercial priorities with technical feasibility. Together, we mapped a path that zeroed in on three outcomes: stronger self-service capability, streamlined system architecture, and a front end built for the pace and pressure of trade.
We then put account control directly into the hands of Chadwicks’ customers. We implemented real-time invoice access, statement downloads, and direct payments, before introducing role-based access for multi-user businesses, with customisable purchasing permissions, to reduce internal bottlenecks. Integrating Accustar ERP and SoftCo P2P brought credit limits and invoice queries online, removing admin and unlocking clarity.
Next, we centralised account data in Adobe Commerce to give every trade user a single source of truth. We cut manual input and reduced risk by automating data flows between Pimcore and ERP systems through Alumio. And to handle Chadwicks’ vast catalogue, we used Klevu’s AI search for faster product discovery, tailored to trade terminology.
On the front end, we implemented Hyvä to boost site performance and mobile responsiveness. Every interface element was designed with trade users in mind, from quick navigation and streamlined dashboards to customer specific pricing and accurate stock reporting.

THE RESULT
This transformation unified Chadwicks’ physical and digital presence. Trade customers now benefit from a consistent, modern experience, whether browsing in-branch or managing accounts online. As a result, we also secured multiple other projects for brands within the Grafton Group, including Macblair, Cork Builders Providers, Telfords and Doorways.
Glass Atlas worked closely with us to fully understand our desired outcomes. Their design and development teams delivered a solution that matched our expectations and those of our customers. The team approached the project with dedication and professionalism, and we’re thrilled with the results. We look forward to continuing our collaboration as we further develop our customer-focused initiatives online.
